Completed Training on Spatial Data Analysis and Visualization for the Western Balkans
27 February 2025
From February 3 to 7, 2025, IAMO and the Agricultural University of Tirana organized a training course in the frame of the project “Establishing a Geoinformation Centre for the Western Balkans” (GEO-WB6).
A total of 16 course participants from four Western Balkan countries (Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia) came together in Tirana, Albania, for five days to learn about the principles of working with spatial data in the software environment of R and R Studio, with a particular emphasis on visualizing geodata, performing and automating spatial data analysis, interpolation techniques, and creating interactive maps. The course provided ample opportunities to apply the gained knowledge in practical exercises, featured interactive sessions, and gave insights into applications of R in geospatial research. Apart from learning about R and GIS, the course participants also got to know the laboratory facilities of the Agricultural University of Tirana, and learnt about the history of Albania during a guided tour to a historical bunker facility.
The project GEO-WB6 is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and aims to improve the capacities and scientific exchange of university and government employees from the six Western Balkan countries in the field of geospatial data analysis. By the end of 2025, IAMO and the Agricultural University of Tirana will organize four more training courses. For further information about the project, please visit www.geo-wb6.net
