Harmonized database with field and farm-level data on agricultural land use for the European Union

18 December 2024

On the 29th of November, the Europe-LAND team from IAMO and the University of Copenhagen released a harmonized database of field-level land use data for almost all countries of the EU with a temporal coverage of up to 20 years. With the help of all our project partners, we collected as many available IACS/GSA data as possible. Building on the work of the EuroCrops project (eurocrops.tum.de/), we harmonized the land-use information, i.e., the crop codes. In addition to the crop codes, we also collected farm identifiers, which we can share for 6 countries, and organic vs. conventional management information, which we can share for 4 countries. Furthermore, we harmonized the data structure, format, and projection to make processing and analyzing all files easier.

The database will be updated at least annually, as we try to collect more data and fill our spatial and temporal gaps. Stay tuned!
