New study reveals extent of abandoned croplands along the front line in Ukraine

Using satellite imagery we estimated the extent of abandoned croplands on both sides of the front line following the invasion of Russia into Ukraine. The total area of abandoned Ukrainian cropland is around 13,900 km², of which 8,000 km² (57 percent) is within the Ukrainian-controlled area. Around  52,400 km2 of croplands is currently located within Russian-occupied territory. Learn more:
