IAMO Conducts Training on Spatial Data Analysis for the Western Balkans
09 October 2024
From September 23 to 27, 2024, IAMO and the Agricultural University of Tirana organized the second training course in Tirana, Albania, in the frame of the project “Establishing a Geoinformation Centre for the Western Balkans” (GEO-WB6). A total of 18 participants from four Western Balkan countries (Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia) came together in Tirana for five days to learn about the principles of spatial data analysis in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In interactive group works and hands-on exercises, the participants were introduced to the most common raster and vector analysis tools at the example of wild fires in the Western Balkans. The course also put emphasis on how to automate workflows in QGIS using the model designer, and provided insights into GIS applications in research and spatial planning.
The project GEO-WB6 is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and aims to improve the continuing education and scientific exchange of university and government employees from the six Western Balkan countries in the field of geospatial data analysis. By the end of 2025, IAMO and the Agricultural University of Tirana will organize six more training courses. For further information about the project, please visit www.geo-wb6.net
